The Society for the Philosophy of Human Life Issues was founded with two goals in mind in particular. The first goal is to give general support to the philosophical discussion of human life issues. These issues, of course, cover a lot of ground but the emphasis of the Society so far has been on moral questions of a topical and controversial nature. The second goal of the Society, and the one to which all its energy is currently directed, is to realize the first goal by the sponsoring of panels devoted to the discussion of some such issue at annual meetings of the American Philosophical Association. Topics discussed at these panels have included: Physician Assisted Suicide; Brain Death and Organ Donation; Abortion; Gay Marriage; Teaching Introductory Ethics. Future topics include Surrogate Motherhood.
